INSTALLING RENTAL LOCK AUTOMATER (RLA)

Please ensure that your lock is within 20ft of a buffering deviceClick for details

All codes should be cleared from the lock before installing RLA

It is recommended to use a desktop browser for these steps

  1. Click on the Rental Lock Automater SmartApp, it will open a new window with the code, select the entire page (Ctrl+A) and copy (Ctrl+C)
  2. Login to the IDE at http://ide.smartthings.com (create a Samsung Account one if you don't have one)
  3. Click on "My Locations" and then click on the name of the location where you want to install RLA
  4. Click on "My SmartApps". If you see Rental Lock Automater already installed, skip to Step 9
  5. Click on "+New SmartApp" on the top right 
  6. Click "From Code"
  7. Paste the code (Ctrl+V) copied from Step 1 into the editor and click "Create
  8. Click "Publish" and then "For me" on the top right
  9. To install RLA open the mobile app and click on the + icon on the top right corner of the screen -> click on "Add Routine" -> click on "Discover" -> Scroll down to SmartApps
  10. Scroll down until you see "Rental Lock Automater" and click on it and tap "Done" to install it. (NOTE: if you don't see it listed, then you may have installed the code in the wrong location, check step 3 again)
  11. After installing RLA, configure/open it using either of these ways:
    • (recommended) SmartThings web browser app -> login here and click on "Automations"
               OR
    • SmartThings mobile app -> click on the "Automations" tab at the bottom of the app and then look for the "SmartApps" section
  12. Click on Rental Lock Automater to configure it:
    • Select ALL the locks you want to use across all properties/units/users, do NOT change this thereafter. You can select specific locks for each property from the Manage properties page or the user pages as explained below and on the RLA FAQ page.
    • Click on Manage properties
    • Set the number of units/properties connected to the hub
      • Click on each unit, enter the name, iCalendar URL's and select the locks for the unit (you can share common locks among units only within the same app, locks should not be shared across multiple instances of the app). Click Next/Done to return to the Manage properties page
      • Scroll down and set the Check-in/Check-out time and Automatic code generation formats for each booking provider
      • Check the remaining settings like advance activation, notifications etc
      • Click Next/Done to return to the main page
    • If additional users are required, change the number of users
    • Click on Manage users to review/change individual user settings. You can extend check out/in dates/times for automatically generated renters here and also configure manual users (e.g. owners, cleaners etc). Click Next/Done to return to the main page
    • Click on other pages like notifications etc to customize your settings
    • Click Done/Save
    • Code programming should start within a minute or so. See the RLA FAQ's page for tips and answers to common questions
NOTE: To open/configure RLA in future see Step 11


UPDATING RENTAL LOCK AUTOMATER CODE

  • Click on the Rental Lock Automater SmartApp, it will open a new window with the code, click on the browser refresh button (to flush the cache), select all (Ctrl+A) and copy the code (Ctrl+C)
  • Login to the IDE at http://ide.smartthings.com
  • Click on "My Locations" and then click on the name of the location where you had installed RLA previously
  • Click on "My SmartApps"
  • Click on "Rental Lock Automater" in the SmartThings IDE
  • Select all (Ctrl+A) and delete the old code, Paste (Ctrl+V) the new code
  • Click on "Save"
  • Click  on "Publish" and then "For Me", if you don't do this the update won't work
